Growing interest in buying land
Interest in buying land in Spain has grown by 144% since the pandemic.
The pandemic continues to bring many changes to the real estate market. The most obvious is to look for houses with more space and outdoor activities, while developing a strong interest in getting out of the big cities. This means that there are significant options for homebuyers to search for land where they can build and build the home they need.
Last year, 15% of homebuyers were interested in buying or renting land. 44% do so because they prefer to build their house from scratch, exactly to their liking, followed by 19% who think it is a good investment with a high rate of return and low maintenance, while 17% want to use it for activities farming or ranching. 14% wanted a piece of land because they planned to buy a manufactured home, while another 4% wanted to put solar panels on the land.
The average age of people interested in buying or renting land is 39 years old.
In general terms, the middle class has the greatest weight in terms of buying or renting land (43%), followed by the highest socioeconomic group (37%). Additionally, couples with or without children made up 60% of those interested in buying or leasing land, although those who live with their parents also stood out (20%).
And in 50% of the cases of young people under 35 looking for land, it was because they wanted to build their own house from scratch, exactly to their liking. Another 23% want it because they think land is a good investment with a high rate of return, while 13% want land to buy a prefabricated house.
Andalusia was the autonomous community most interested in buying or renting land (22%), followed by Madrid (13%), Comunidad Valenciana (12%) and Catalonia (11%).
